Terry Adirim, M.D., M.P.H., M.B.A.
Dr. Adirim is Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Professor of Pediatrics and Chair of the Department of Integrated Medical Sciences. In her role as Senior Associate Dean, she is responsible for providing leadership over the FAU College of Medicine’s clinical enterprise including providing vision, strategy and oversight of the College’s patient care, clinical translational research activities and the new FAU Medicine faculty practice. She is also responsible for ensuring continued successful implementation of the College’s goal of improving access to value-based care, as outlined in the College’s 2018-2022 Strategic Plan. As Department Chair, Dr. Adirim is responsible for providing leadership, mentoring and strategy for a department comprised of approximately 80 core faculty and 1200 affiliate, community-based faculty members representing a spectrum of medical specialties. Prior to coming to FAU, Dr. Adirim was Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs in the Department Defense, providing leadership over the Military Health System (MHS), which is a large $50 billion integrated health system composed of 49 hospitals and hundreds of clinics world-wide including the TRICARE Health Plan serving 9.5 million beneficiaries. She maintains adjunct academic appointments at the DoD Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda Maryland. Previously, Dr. Adirim worked in senior leader positions at the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security and Health and Human Services and in academic medicine. Dr. Adirim earned her M.D. with research distinction at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, her pediatrics residency training at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Pediatric Emergency Medicine training at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC and Primary Care Sports Medicine training at DeWitt Army Community Hospital in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. She is an expert in health policy and health services systems with over 200 publications, oral presentations and invited keynote speaking engagements.
