Bret Alvis, MD. Bret is currently an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, an adjunct Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Vanderbilt University, and a Staff Anesthesiologist and Intensivist at the TVHS-VA in Nashville, TN. He is board certified in anesthesiology and critical care medicine. He joined the faculty with the Department of Anesthesiology at VUMC in 2014 and became faculty at TVHS-VA in 2015. Dr. Alvis has served as the Medical Director for the Perioperative Care Service at the TVHS-VA since conception in 2015. He has been instrumental in the creation and success of this innovative service that executes and promotes the perioperative surgical home and enhanced recovery after surgery. As a VUMC faculty member, Dr. Alvis serves as the Associate Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Alvis also performs NIH funded translational research in the area of venous waveform analysis to better understand volume states.
