Complementary Approaches to the Opioid Epidemic


This discussion will help the participant in identifying and understanding some of the nontraditional techniques and strategies currently being implemented for patients suffering from Substance Use Disorder. The takeaway message is the importance of collaboration between physicians and non-medical doctors to improve effectiveness of care in this multifaceted and challenging arena. 

Erin Dorval, PHARMD, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Palm Beach Atlantic University Gregory School of Pharmacy

Dr. Erin Dorval completed her Pharm.D. and a Community Pharmacy residency at Albany College of Pharmacy in Albany, New York.  Dr. Dorval is currently a Director of Community Pharmacy Residency Program and Assistant Professor at Palm Beach Atlantic University Lloyd L. Gregory School of Pharmacy in West Palm Beach, FL.  She teaches over-the-counter medications, self-care, disease prevention and compounding, is an advisor of the student chapter for the American Pharmacists Association and a preceptor in an independent community pharmacy, Atlantis Pharmacy. Dr. Dorval is an active member in her state pharmacy associations and is a luminary for Community Pharmacy Enhanced Service Network Florida (CPESN FL). Current research interests include expanding community pharmacy practice through enhanced services, opioid use disorder screening and pain management.
